Will Hodgman’s mixed messages over tourism and forestry risks damaging both industries.
Lonely Planet’s damaging warning to visit Tasmania before it is too late is a direct response to the Liberals tearing up the Tasmanian Forestry Agreement and promising to ‘unlock’ the forests.
Of course we know the government hasn’t delivered a single additional stick to the industry but their dishonest and inflammatory approach to this debate has already tarnished our reputation on an international stage.
The forest industry will be asking whether the Liberals still intend to unlock 400,000 ha of earmarked reserves in 2020.
Likewise, has the government abandoned support for light touch harvesting of special species from within the boundary extension of the TWWHA?
Either the Premier is lying to Lonely Planet when he says there will be no more harvesting, or he is lying to the forest industry.
