The momentum for a second Bass Strait interconnector is building, after today’s release of the National Transmission Network Development Plan by the Australian Energy Market Operator.
This follows the Clean Energy Finance Corporation and the Turnbull Government both supporting the project.
What today’s report shows is that a second Bass Strait interconnector would benefit the entire national energy market, which strengthens our case that a second interconnector should be nationally funded.
A second interconnector will unlock Tasmania’s renewable energy sector and help deliver on our vision of making Tasmania the renewable energy battery of Australia.
There is potential for an extra 1000MW of renewable generation in Tasmania, which would deliver up to $3 billion worth of new investment in the State.
That is a fantastic future to look forward to.  I will be travelling to Melbourne tomorrow to meet with my state and federal counterparts and I will again raise the vital importance of the second Bass Strait interconnector.
