Dani Ecuyer Independent Candidate announces she is running a Geoff Cousins ad in the Wentworth Courier.

Ms Ecuyer said “Mr. Turnbull must be held to account over his decision to approve the Tasmanian pulp mill. Mr. Turnbull’s claims that Australia is leading the world in climate change is spot on; he has allowed Gunns to continue the mass deforestation of Tassie’s forests, which will emit between 10-20 million tonnes of CO2 p.a.. This is equivalent to 2.3-4.6 million new cars each year or 2-4% of Australia’s total emissions.

The Wilderness Society conservatively estimates that the pulp mill will destroy over 200 thousand hectares of our native forest. This is about three times the 70 thousand hectares of forest Mr Turnbull touts he will save with his $100m plan to stop logging in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Are Australia’s forests, some of the best carbon stores in the world, not worth keeping? Seems not!

Also under the MIS tax schemes Australian’s get to pay for the deforestation from their taxes, so native forests can be devastated for plantations, and Gunns can woodchip and pulp them.

Enough is enough, the public has a right to know what is happening in Tasmania.

If Turnbull was serious about leading the world on Climate Change, he would not have approved the pulp mill, particularly without due assessment of all impacts including emissions.”
