Image for Australia on the turn

I love a sunburnt country,
a land of sweeping plains,
of ragged mountain ranges,
of droughts and flooding rains.

I love her far horizons;
I love her jewel-sea,
her beauty and her terror-
the wide brown land for me!
But where like far horizons,
our minds were once so wide
we’d welcome all and sundry,
as mates lived side by side

The jeweled sea’s gifts we fear now,
we scorn their ragged clothes
and beauty turns to horror,
as our eyes stay tightly closed.

So if your land’s been swept away,
by war and grief and pain
if you seek new beginnings,
to escape from terror’s reign

Don’t come to our borders,
we’ll see you coming near
we’ll stand and sing our anthem,
and this is what you’ll hear

“All refugees - see us rejoice -
know we won’t hear your plea.
Your tormenters can do their worst -
we’ll tow you back to sea!

Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
that we don’t wish to share.
In history’s page, the worlds outraged
and we don’t bloody care.

It’s clear that we’ve forgotten
to Advance Australia fair.”
