LOCAL GOVERMENT REGULATIONS REVIEW

As many Tas Times readers know F&D is concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability surrounding donations and donation disclosure at all levels of government.

We consider the current situation in Tasmania to be an open invitation to corruption. It is currently legal for anyone to donate any amount of money to a candidate for local government with absolutely no disclosure requirements and no cap on candidate spending except during a short period just prior to the poll.

Many local government candidates agree with us and have chosen to disclose their funding on our website: http://www.FundingandDisclosure.org.au

The Local Government Division has commenced a review of the Local Government (General) Regulations 2005.

The reason for the review is that the Regulations, which have a ten-year lifespan, are automatically repealed (expire) on 29 June 2015.

The Review of Local Government (General) Regulations 2005 - Discussion Paper has been developed to stimulate discussion regarding the effectiveness of the Regulations and to explore options for amendment and improvement.

F&D encourages you to make a submission (this can be as simple as one sentence statement) to the Local Government Division either by email to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)  or by mail to:
